You need to make sure you get the right setup program for your system; some of the older setups do not detect the system. Check the model number, printed on the back or bottom of the machine, as well as the BIOS version.
Not all 1000's have setup programs. If your 1000-series system is not listed here, it doesn't have EEPROM or CMOS and uses jumpers and switches on the motherboard for setup. You can download documentation on those from the official Tandy support site:
http://support.radioshack.com/ProductInfo/Most of these setup programs are also available at the official Tandy support site. Tandy also has setups for Grid systems; I don't have those.
